Here is our official response to the advert that you've seen in FHM and to your questions.

MultiChoice would like to confirm that it plans to launch an additional HD channel, M-Net Movies HD, on 1 October. Details of the channel will be communicated closer to the launch.

At this stage, that is all we can say about the channel. So unfortunately that means that we will not be able to answer any follow-up questions at the moment.

You really need to get your marketing team into gear. How can FHM be the ones to announce a new DSTV HD channel?
Same thing happened with the Pace 2P, people were seeing it advertised all over the place weeks before your marketing team decided to make an announcement.
Surely information on new MC products should come from MC, it just opens up room for misinformation

I see a channel shuffle coming up.

Dominic? Suggestions?

;-)

Seriously though. Looking forward to it and hopefully it will free up a bit of space on MNet HD!

Didn't MC say something about launching HD channels in groups of four? Hopefully this means four new HD channels over the next year or so.

Maybe they paid big bucks for it to have the scoop.

This kind of stuff happens often to many companies. MC will have set an official launch date but artwork and stuff has to meet deadlines and although magazines etc should keep to the official date someone there mucks up and releases the info. Is the ad in an October dated issue? Seems a bit early for that.

I actually would have preferred Animal Planet HD or National Geographic HD so that we can have a new genre, now we will have 2 Sports HD channels, 2 Movie HD channels (since MnetHD does broadcast quite a lot of movies, and with PVR functionality, time at which they are shown is not a problem), and 1 HD documentary channel (Discovery HD Showcase)

Lol! Yeah Simon. You know.
I'm very exited about all the HD channels we have and going to get. It's just the HD channels are all mixed up with their channel numbers.

Should have been:

170 M-Net HD
171 M-Net Movies 1 HD
175 SuperSport 1 HD
176 SuperSport 2 HD
178 Discovery HD Showcase

Agree. A channel suffle is definitely needed.
