Default Comparison between HD ready and Full HD

Hi guys, can you explain to me what is the diference between HD ready and Full HD. One of these days after all the troubles HDPVR is over I want to buy me a HDtv. Can you advise what tv will be the best value for your money?

In a nutshell : HD ready means the display is capable of 720p +/- 1080i.
Full HD 1080p

I am not aware of MC planning to transmit 1080p in the near future, so if most of your viewing is tv then HD ready will probably be the best value. If however you are more into DVD/Blueray movies etc. with a planned ripper of a home-theatre set-up then 1080p probably better.

The sticky "Some Television Background" covers at least part of this question.

HD READY is a rip off that comes with 1 bar of soap
Full HD is a rip off that comes with 2 bars of soap!

It was a dark and stormy night.
(But because his installation was sound, his DStv reception was perfect.)

I cannot understand how people are prepared to spend many thousands of Rands on a panel screen TV and not do full research and make sure that they undersatnd what they're buying. Never ask a salesperson for advice, they all have their own agenda and most do not have a clue about the different resolutions. The people posting here are obviously computer literate to a degree, yet they seem to ignore the most powerful source of information in the history of mankind, the internet. The amount of sites with information about high definition, what to look for and what it all means is simply mind-boggling and it's inexcusable to part with your hard-earned bucks without doing some research.
