Default 5.1 Sound on CU+

Is it possible to have DD5.1 sound on CU+ titles? If the only issue is with file sizes, can we not have 3 options to choose from - SD, HD and HD 5.1?

Hi Krugie

Currently all content that has Dolby (5.1) is passed through to CU.

We will pass your request to the relevant teams/departments.

Thanks Grace - many programs on CU eventually move to CU+ and then they loose their 5.1 soundtracks. And pretty much all movies on CU+ should be available with 5.1 soundtracks.

I do think it will make the file sizes much bigger but if it is a separate option then people with uncapped data can choose that option.

Just my few cents worth. If the content is Dolby encoded, then the sound would be AC-3, which is a compression format for multi-channel sound.

It shouldn't add much to the file size.

However, there was an issue (I've not checked of late) with content not actually having a 5.1 soundtrack on CU / CU+.

I'm sure those in the know on the content team would be able to give a file size comparison between titles with a 2.0 or 5.1 soundtrack though.

If you're concerned about data, then download the SD version. The HD version should have DD 5.1 sound.

I'm still noticing catch-up and catch-up plus content being advertised with DD when it's not 5.1 sound.

I'm not worried about data - I just want to option to download with 5.1 sound. I have never seen a CU+ title with 5.1 sound - I'm almost sure they only offer 2.0.

Exactly. HD should be 5.1 sound. If you're worried about data, it should be SD 2.0 (and don't advertise this as DD).

Hi All

I have looped in the relevant teams to assist with the 5.1 sound on CU+. Awaiting their feedback regarding the matter.
