A rumbling in the distance, South and North of us, but nothing in PTA east.

Rain easing off now; nothing like as long a duration as last Sunday.
Appears to be moving North East to South West, which is a little unusual. Still plenty of Donner and Blitzen!
Cheers, K.
PS The little Blacksmith's Plover chick in my avatar (photographed Saturday) did not make it through the storm on Sunday. No sign of it on Monday morning, or since. Though the 2 adults are still around. k

They are very good at hiding! we have a pair nesting in our street, whose chick appeared to have vanished into thin air, but after 3 days is now back again foraging with its parents.
so maybe it is still around ....

Hopefully but I don't have much hope. The parents were totally on its case; never more than 10m away from the chick all last week through to Sunday. And making the distress call as soon as anyone approached. I had to sit quietly for around an hour, without moving, to get my photos.
But now they are generally disinterested in life, just milling around. Cheers, K.

A seriously tough part of life for us but amazing how quickly animals adapt. I have seen what looks like a mourning period for a couple of hours with bigger animals, but some just sniff and then walk off.
The main storm seems to be coming to an end.

Later we ended up with soaking rain and no rumblings or light show. Very welcome as the temperature has dropped significantly from the 38 - 39 we had in the last few days.

Sandton Weatherman here.
Another real biggie gathering over Sandton and Randburg right now
The electrical storm has just begun; also the rain.
Expect disruption.
Cheers, K.
