The Americans was set in the 80s and people watched that. So there can be a place for shows set 30 years ago.

But for me the real question is why bother to reboot Macgyver? Why not come up with something original instead?

I think he may be done with that. As far as I know, 24: Legacy has a completely different cast.

True. But it was also about the cold war so it's sort of history which makes it interesting
