Angry Explora 2 Confusion

I am confused. I have 1 x HD decoder + 1 Dual View Decoder and 3 TV's on which we can watch 3 different channels at the same time. Now wish to go to Explora 2. DSTV says we need: 1 x Explora + 1 x additional HD PVR. Makro says we need 2 x Explora; Game says we need Explora + 2 x NEW HD decoders and may have to change dish as well as everything associated with TV. Now WHAT???????

Extraview 3 , means you need 1 explora decoder and 2 HD decoders or any combination , as long as there is an explora as primary.
The HD decoder that you have is it a 4136 model

For the Explora to work you will need a New DStv Smart lnb , however your installation at home might not need any changes or if any that would depend on your current installation and where you would want the decoders to stand. if you have an existing Dish it will work, recommended though is a 80cm Dish.

Hi Alida1,

Only the Explora is capable of sending heartbeats to two decoders. For this reason, there must be at least one DStv Explora. The other two decoders can be either DStv Explora or DStv HD Decoder (single view).

These are the 3 supported combinations:
Explora + Explora + Explora
Explora + Explora + DStv HD Decoder
Explora + DStv HD Decoder + DStv HD Decoder.

Hope this info helps.

I see everybody has commented already I feel left out!

But to add my pinch of salt, this is what you get for the 3 options listed

Explora + Explora + Explora == Record 3 view 3
Explora + Explora + DStv HD Decoder == Record 2 view 3
Explora + DStv HD Decoder + DStv HD Decoder. === record 1 view 3.

Depending on how you distribute signals just remember that only the TV connected directly to each Explora will be able to view recorded content from that decoder.

You have not said which dual view decoder you have at the moment (old dual view only or the SD PVR)

Old dual view: Then what you have at the moment is just view 3.
SD PVR: Then you have view 3 record 1 with the recorded content shared between two viewing environments.

I think I'll have to correct you here ;-)

Explora + Explora + Explora = View 1 Record 1 Times 3

SDPVR = View 2 Record 1

Sky Q Box = View 5 Record 4

I like! Your description highlights the independent aspect perfectly!

@Ferrell, Simon will probably give you all the interesting detail but it unfortunately has nothing to do with what DStv offers or will ever offer as it's an internationally used option that won't be adopted here.
More about it and why in the last few posts of Press release: DStv Explora is the TV Gadget of the Year for 2016
