Default trick mode

I see that when using FF the video stutters/pauses now. It used to be smooth. Even noticed that it drops out of trick mode back to play without been commanded.

Given that there are all these early morning "maintenance" reboots I have not performed one myself.

Maybe I should, but Geoff would so no...

the problem is this stuttering is now appearing everywhere. I had it on two recordings on the SD PVR last night and on the UEC decoder ---- (for the same content).

(Days on SABC 3) --- So no I don't think it is decoder or installation related but something going on globally at MC.

Hi Chris, The stuttering, is it on your Explora or HD PVR?

Geoff, I wil ask the team to look at the SD PVR and 4 Tuner UEC decoder.

Hi MC

On the Explora. I did some more experimenting. It appears to be the videos which have leading adverts, e.g. Taken.

An interesting quirk is that you start the episode, press FF 3x and wait. The trick mode drops out at the legal message, just before the start of the show! Quite brilliant....maybe I should not have mentioned this.

cheers

We were discussing starting a thread called "Dirty Trick Mode"

to document these tricks that MC is coming up with to try make it more and more difficult for one to skip over ads.

The one you mentioned is where the trick mode functionality appears to be disabled while that legal message is on, which prevents (or makes it more difficult to invoke FF) until after the legal message has been viewed.

The other effect of this is to prevent the "tick" appearing against the item until after the legal message has passed.

There a few more we have come across. Maybe we should start documenting them together with their work-arounds in a separate thread?

Hi All,

I have escalated this query to various engineers within the Infield Support team and will post as they respond.

For UEC 4828 and SD PVR Decoders, please confirm the following:

• Does the stuttering happen on all channels or specific channels?
I see there is a mention of SABC 3.

• Does this happen all the time or just during certain period of time?

• Does the stuttering happen on Live or only during playback of recordings?

• Does the stuttering happen with playback at normal speed or during trick mode (Rewind/Fast-forward)?

Apologies all for the inconvenience caused.

Regards,
Mpho
