Sorry guys and gals, this sounds like gobblygook to me, all of it!

Maybe a simple flow chart type diagram will put it all into perspective?

Sorry, I'm adding to the confusion with my attempted descriptions.

What I'm referring to as "internet" or "online" is ALL DStv Now options combined.
"DStv Now" is the best general description as the other two words can be associated with CU+ as well, and "online" additionally has its own MC meaning.

Sigh...
So, I was saying Explora CU and CU+ combined is the equivalent list to the various DSTV Now lists.

Therefore will change my suggestion - I would instead like to suggest that it can be referred to as "DStv Now CU".
Marietjie will be best equipped to debate this further if needed.

Ok let's simplify this right down:

Catch Up on your decoder (any PVR or Explora)
Internally we call this Push VOD: we send the shows to your decoder through the satellite for you to watch when you are ready
This catalogue is limited as there is a space limitation on the decoder. Explore has a bigger catalogue than other PVRs

Catch Up Plus on your Explora decoder
Internally this is called Pull VOD: you choose what you want to watch and either stream or download it to your Explora through the internet
This is an extended catalogue of series, kids content, sports shows, documentaries plus 1000 movies in the M-Net Movies Collection

Catch Up on the internet through DStv Now online

This is also called Pull VOD: you use your internet browser on your laptop or PC to got to DStv Now online, you select Catch Up and choose from the extended catalogue of series, kids content, sports shows, documentaries plus 1000 movies in the M-Net Movies Collection.
You can only stream online, no downloads available

Catch Up on the DStv Now App
This is also a version of Pull VOD: you use the app on your smartphone or tablet (iOS or Android) to access Catch Up from the DStv Now server. The same titles of series, kids, content, sports shows documentaries and 1000 movies is available here as per online and Catch Up Plus.
You can stream or download to watch later

Important to note that just because catalogues are the same, does not mean they pull from the same source. So your Catch Up Plus sits in a different server than Catch Up online or Catch Up in the DStv Now App. We've simply aligned the catalogues so you can find the same content across all of those platforms.

That makes more sense! The distinction between push and pull helps plenty.

One last question from me please. Where in each of the above scenarios does the choice of Subscription influence what is accessible to a user? Is this on the decoder itself?

In all of the above scenarios. in all instances, you are only shown the catalogue that is related to your package. At the moment, we only have two distinct catalogues: one for Premium, and one for Extra and Compact customers. Your decoder uses the smart card to determine which catalogue to show you, and everywhere else your Connect ID is used to make that distinction (which is why all of our streaming and Catch Up sits behind a log in).

For now, our Extra and Compact customers only have access to Push VOD on their decoders. From mid April, these customers will have access to DStv Now online and on the app. This will then mean that they have access to streaming channels linked to their package, and Catch Up content linked to their package only. So for example, not all 1000 of the movies in the M-Net Movies Collection will be available to them - only about half of that, that has been shown on Compact and Extra channels.

Catch Up Plus (pull VOD on the DStv Explora that is connected to the internet) is exclusively available to our DStv Premium customers only and will be for the foreseeable future. As is the discounted ShowMax subscription linked onto a connected Explora.

With respect (and I've read all the other replies too) this is all about as confusing to the average customer as the access fee reversal on the accounts.

Why can't it just be simple across all platforms.

Catchup
Content on decoders (SD-PVR through to Explora 2)
Limited content varying by decoder size and/or package
Catchup Plus
Extra (plus - duh?) content available with an Internet Connection (Explora, Web, Mobile)
Content varies by package
At the moment, we have Catchup on decoders except Exploras which is called Catchup Plus, but only if you have an internet connection, otherwise it's also called Catchup. Not to be confused with Catchup which is available online which is the same content as Catchup Plus but not Catchup.

Do I hear anyone say "Access Fee Reversal"? ;-)

It's even more confusing when you look at this.

Catch_Up_Schedule.jpg

Where the computer, mobile device (Catchup) and Catchup Plus for the internet enabled Explora are actually the same thing although labelled differently.

This should be renamed Catchup and Catchup Plus.

I think this thread is going to be used as a reference for a long time.
To avoid any further confusion here's a simple graphic representation of much of it - as is said, a picture paints a thousand words.

Note that there is no reference to the various sourcing particulars, it's just regarding listings as we see them.
It's not done to any reasonable scale either, especially the Catch Up Plus part which should be much longer.

Agreed, it's the only way to explain it that makes sense.
But those aren't user-friendly terms. There has to be a way to achieve both, surely.

How about Delivered CU and Fetched CU? Something along those lines...
