Always amuses me seeing people with their huge tablets making phone calls or taking photos. But yes, cellphones are used for a lot more than just making calls.

So sorry to hear that Jean, hope the newer replacements are some sort of compensation. It's horrible, feels like one's insides have been breached!

We now use out of reach heat movement sensors which I suppose could relay an alarm when a property is deserted during the day. In our situation we work from here.

Sorry to hear that. I've had similar things happen to me and it's not a great feeling. Because you didn't mention it, I take it no one was hurt, which I suppose is a slight consolation.

I know how to beat those sensors, but I maybe shouldn't mention how to do it in a public forum. Although I did get it from MythBusters, so it's not like it's some major secret.

The reason that I know is that at one point our alarm was faulty and wouldn't turn off and we needed to get into a room with a heat sensor. So I tried this method out, thinking that it wouldn't actually work, but it did.

Fortunately in Africa I think most of those with the mindset to just take from others don't have the intelligence for it Let's hope so.

Sorry to hear about the bad news Jean P. Hope you are covered by insurance although even if you are one normally still loses out by a good couple of rands. Also hope that the data on the laptop and tablet wasn't too sensitive and/or has been backed up somewhere?

Not a pleasant experience and hopefully one that you and the family will quickly recover from.

Thanks all. Nobody was hurt luckily

Yip we are going to get one of those alarms installed with sensors and beans.

The police seemed helpful and responded quickly along with gap. Had the forensics guy here and now it's just a waiting game.
