Not can't but don't want to. You can upgrade but the penalty is lose all recordings on the older decoder.

Yes that is apparently so. Spoke to a pal who has one. The recordings only play back via the decoder on which the recordings were made in the first place.

I guess something like that would be handy if MC wants to offer it - for those recordings you want to keep forever without taking up HDD space (or at least for as long as you keep the decoder active). Or even to offer recording capabilities on non-PVR decoders.

Ja certainly possible.
Don't know enough about the TOPTV service. The link between the USB stick and the USB HDD only needs to be to the SC and not to the decoder itself. Think how easy it would be to change decoders if DStv decoders were like this? Decoder goes faulty. No problem pull out the memory stick and SC and "marry" the two to the new decoder --- job done.

That would be awesome yes - and especially an external hard drive more so than a stick (due to capacity).

Looking forward to this launch of "something" by MC next month

I'm taking odds on fast charging ports

(PS if I downplay this as much as possible, I really won't be dissapointed if MC comes up with something totally silly)
