Thanks, I remember that now, something about it being the references in contracts that they must adhere to.

But have to ask, who determines that part of the contract, could be M-Net or MC themselves based on in-house concepts or needs.
The problem (if it is that again) is a real one in that this industry is a very internationally shared space these days for so many reasons, it clearly would be good for the public in cases like these to stick to internationally-standard info where possible.

The question is what is the international standard? IMDB have their criteria for classifying it as Season 5, but the studio may have their reasons for classifying it as the first seasons of a new series, and whatever the studio decides would be the official one, even if IMDB's is possibly the more common sense approach.

Agreed. Funny that I had automatically imagined that studios / imdb / rotten tomatoes / wiki etc. would all be of one mind, actually very unlikely to be the case :-/
Then again, if one does a search with season and episode numbers there does appear to be much consistency.

I think we expect less professionalism in this part of the world, and unfortunately it's all too often justified.

Unless the name of the series is somewhat changed, for example Prison Break: Revival, it is nonsensical and actually totally incorrect to name it season 1. You can't possibly have two different Prison Break S01E01s.....

Thanks JP, then a lot of hot air about nothing more than a typo... unless the trailer has the typo

But still a point that was well worth discussing.

They did that with Twin Peaks though...

And with Dallas. Perhaps more acceptable if enough years have passed?
Or maybe easiest to just say that these studios are crazy

That one... if it is REALLY the studios...

EDIT: I'm just looking on Wikipedia now and even they have Twin Peaks and Dallas as new series starting with season 1 - but Prison Break is shown as season 5.

Maybe we're just overlooking that there's many, many independent thinking studios...

Reminds me of John Cleese as the headmaster in Monty Python giving his students absurd conditional instructions on where and when to hang their coats

Apologies for the "derailment".
