Perhaps it already works on tablets / smartphones?
Downloads for saving and watching later is available to tablets and I would imagine smartphones too. I've downloaded two series of Dexter and when doing so have ..... 25 days? in which to watch them. So, yes, downloads to the tablets are possible but there is a period of time before the system will automatically remove them.

Because I don't have too much data available to me I wait until midnight, I normally only go to sleep just before then anyway, then do my download from Showmax. I click on the download icon shown at the episode I'm wanting to download, choose the data option which is normally the second lowest, and then while that episode is downloading repeat the exercise for whatever other downloads I want to do. I then put off the light and go sleep and let the downloads take care of themselves.

Bit of useless information but just maybe it is of some assistance to someone.

But when trying to do the above on my laptop I couldn't find the download icon which is why I asked the question. I think rock4aus2 has possibly given me the answer. But basically it would appear that downloading to either a computer or laptop is not available at this time. If ever.

Thanks to those who offered assistance.

I must say I do like the resolution and mb size option. Really wish DStv now or Netflix gives that option

Netflix does have a "standard" and "higher" option for downloads, but I'm assuming you probably already know that? It's similar to other services I've used in the past

..... And a 4K Streaming option for the (growing list of) assets that support UHD; provided, that is, you've paid the extra GBP 1.50 per month for the 4K service. You'll need a solid 13+ Mbps download capability to support this service.

It asks you if you want to subscribe to the 4K service the first time you run the Netflix app on a connected 4K TV.

Cheers, K.

Yep, I also ran into that issue on a laptop:

Ended up checking the FAQs and discovering downloading is limited to certain platforms, and doesn't include Windows devices yet. Really hope they add downloading to all devices, incl Exploras.

Does anybody know how to determine if a ShowMax title is expiring sometime? I haven't seen any expiry dates anywhere, doubt they keep things 4eva.

@MC - Please allow the Explora's main search engine options (I mostly use Word Search) to include a search of ShowMax titles.
Should be easy as it already does CU+.

TIA
