Agree 100% Nic is always prompt and detailed in his responses. Even if it's not always what we want to hear; that's absolutely fine. Responses are logical and well explained.

Others moderators are simply not interested; sports channels being a prime example. Threads go for months unmonitored/unanswered. Then a flippant response if we are lucky.

And there are varying degrees in between these two extremes.

Cheers, K.

I did suggest some time back that some sort of shared social-media effort be attempted, there's nothing that beats coordinated efforts.

Specialised staff specifically for the Forum (etc?)
Although it's a great advantage that managers are MC's key communicators here, by default they're busy people and not necessarily equipped to deal with the raw public head on. Not that they shouldn't continue to be involved.

After hours skeleton staff, especially for weekends, perhaps on a rotational basis? I'm not suggesting 24/7, just something reasonable as this is a 24/7 service.

Equip your Forum staff with the teeth to get the tasks required done.

Attitude - we all know that many Forumites have not been very polite to say the least, but honestly some Mods could learn to be more respectful too. Authority has its place but I'm one of those people who prefer to see all as equal where possible, at least on some levels. It doesn't mean we should all be best friends, just respectful with the leaders setting the example.

Secrecy - more than understandable in a number of circumstances, but sometimes MC really take this too far and make it impossible for their vast pool of clients to deal with the realities before them.

Completely agree re Nic. It's not only his natural talent that shines here, he did mention when he first joined that he's had experience running forums before.
Other Mods are also key to what works here. Unfortunately one of them, Natasha, will be transferring elsewhere within the week. Hopefully a lot of care is going into trying to fill her very efficient shoes. (EDIT: She'll still be around until March.)

Very much looking forward to hearing what the professionals have to say about this Forum's structure.
Basically the sectional divisions make a lot of sense to me, but no doubt there's always room for improvement.

Lastly (for now?), as C4 is otherwise engaged it would be great to see his 2 sections receiving better attention, and also the Installations section is perhaps the poorest attended on the Forum (may be our "fault" for being so efficient in it ).

Thank you MoM & co.

**you need to build a "library section" where repetitive problems and solutions are captured.....

rather than let Geoff work himself to extinction repeating the same troubleshooting solutions to every newcomer who runs into similar problems.

Good idea, T; we have suggested this before.
I tend to hyperlink back to previous solutions I've given, rather than rekeying the whole solution; but some standard solutions to point people to would be great.

I'd be prepared to craft a couple, from previous tomes I've written, if MC is prepared to put up an appropriate holding section; something like ........

"Examples of typical solutions to common problems experienced" -- try these first!

Cheers, K.

Absolutely - I have also suggested this before. And including known bugs/issues (and known solutions where available).

By definition, a forum is a platform upon which discussions, interactions and intercourse can take place. For a forum to be successful in meeting those criteria it needs to be conducive to furthering discussions etc. On one side we have the subscribers to the MultiChoice service, who all have differing views, yet seek to enjoy a first-class service which they are paying for. Universally, the subscribers feel that the current service is less than perfect and use this forum to express their views and or dissatisfaction of the service. On the other side we have the provider of this service, who, according to the financial press, are making mountains of money from subscribers and advertisers. When representatives of MultiChoice are conspicuous by their absence on this forum, the subscribers feel that they're getting the cold shoulder or, when they do get answers, that they're being fobbed off with platitudes and stock replies.

To improve this forum is easy, simply spend a little of all that money and have dedicated people who will constantly monitor the threads on the forum and to reply in a manner that provides real answers or firm commitments to address the issues raised.

Over the last few days I've noticed that the bots appear to have been mostly cleared out, it's great - thanks MC!

However, the new registration method (which I won't detail) requires knowledge I think most here wouldn't know, and no alternatives so far. I'm wondering how many would go to the trouble of researching that just to register.
But perhaps it's just work still in progress.

*AHEM*
puts on glasses to read long list : - p

1)Allow forum king and Queen to exist on the new/refreshed forum.

2)Increase the layout of forum
-When people put big pictures the layout goes wacky

3)Add more smileys and increase the number you may use
-The king likes using the smileys

4)Start having give a ways / competitions on the forum.

5)Have Q&A Sessions
-Let us gain insight and understanding from the management of Different sections.
-Q&A sessions with contestants from Idols ,Master chef etc.

6)Close the DStv Content Discussion section
-People keep on putting queries in their which sometimes do not get answered.
-In the General section create two subsections Series Discussions and Lets talk movies[Movies Discussions did not sound right] you welcome to create one subsection for the both ,I just feel they should be separate.

7)Allow the lounge thread to exist on new /refreshed forum
-I gained some weird insight about forumites.
-I got to have fun while waiting for a reply for my question

8)Lets have a Mod of the Month
-Competition leads to improvement

9)We need to know the history of the forum
-So that we can celebrate the forums Birthday.

10)Allow us to ping and poke mods for a quick response

11)Increase the forum budget to allow for King and Queen Salary.

12) Put notifications of when its somebodies birthday at the top and not at the bottom of the Forum.

13) Upgrade the forum software.

14)Open a forum shop
-Those box office shirts are nice to wear except for the part on the back where it says push the green button got tired of people pushing the green button on the back of the shirt.

15)Mods must be more active
-I know you get busy.
-If you get busy let us know that you are very busy and we will understand.

16)Allow us to embed videos from youtube
-Only for certain sections sections e.g the Series and Movies Discussions this useful to share trailers and promo`s

17)Allow polls
-only for certain sections e.g The Series and Movies Discussions
-This will be useful for debates in the Discussion section.

18)Lets give a big thank you the Mods and forumites who went the extra mile.

19)Add more security questions.

20)Put a limit for the maximum length of a post.
-Some people sometimes have just to much to say and I do not like reading long posts
