Default New HD PVR user looking for help connecting

Hi I bought a new HD PVR and Sony 40v series HD TV and the instruction manuals only show how to connect the TV with a home theatre but I have an old surround sound Kenwood system which includes a DVD/CD player. I also have a Sony VCR. I want to connect them all, Are there any Boffins out there who can explain to me what goes where. I only have coaxial cables. I am also not much of a techie so Noddy language is about my level of understanding.

Video:
Connect HDPVR to TV with HDMI cable (also carries audio) that came in the box
Connect DVD player to TV with component (3 video cables)
If you dont have these then next best is composite (yellow video cable)

Audio
Connect coaxial from HDPVR to surround sound
I assume DVD player audio goes direct into SS?

VCR, stick it in the spare room cos you wont be using it much

Thanks for your input I have done that but where does the sat aerial cable go. The manual says into LNB 1. I did that but still no signal with message that the arial is not connected

oh, so installing the decoder yourself...
Do you know which setup you have, SatCR will be just one LNB which will work with the HDPVR, otherwise you should have 4 LNBs coming in?

If you have SatCR then yes it goes into LNB1 port 1, you will then need to change your LNB mode in the decoder menu, advanced settings > network settings > LNB mode

Default Oh No now I really need help

Hi Merv

As I said I am no techie. I now realise that I should have 4 LNB inputs but my old SD PVR didn't. I am advised I now need to buy a switch for the new system if I want to do the installation correctly to allow for dual view later. Would you agree and what would one pay for such a switch

ok then what you need is a 2x6 multiswitch, that way you can use both PVRs.
Your SDPVR should have had 2 LNB cables coming in from the dish, so you put those 2 into the multiswitch, and then it has 6 lines going out, put 4 into the HD & 2 into the SD
There are lots available from shops selling on BidorBuy, here is an example

Hi Merv you are a star, I now have the system up and running and it is as clear as a bell. Another problem now is that the remote doesn't react the way it did with the SD PVR. The problem is in the action buttons. I can pause the program and restart it but I cannot rewind or fast forward. Is tthere a special trick I am not aware of
