I've used AVG Free for years. Never had a problem. I don't think I've paid for Antivirus since 2006.

The only thing that is important is not to run more than one antivirus package at a time

My prob with AVG is that it became bulky, trying to elbow its way into other areas of protection and without offering the ability to control that enough.

Microsoft Essentials' anti-virus works well (but will now be on its way out for XP ).

I used to bee a Nortons bigot then it let me down by not recognising the Skype Trojan about 18 months ago and I ended up rebuilding my entire machine from a format.

It also became expensive, so I purchased AVG Internet security and PC Tune-up. I've been using this combination since.

It has declared a couple of false positives; rather that than missing real issues!

Cheers, K

True, but at one point it actually interfered with my use of some still fairly mainstream software. Not that that's necessarily an AVG issue alone, I've seen other protection suites do the same.

BTW, try registering on AVG's forum, they didn't even bother to get back to me re my registration
(Although nor did MC initially in Dec 2008, yet look how that changed and where it's led to... )

At work it's Trend Micro OfficeScan as that's what my company uses, while on my home computer it's AVG Free. I switched to it when I thought I had a virus but Norton which I had at the time didn't report anything. I installed AVG, it picked up and eliminated the virus and I've used it ever since then.
