Please assist. I have a HDPVR 2P and Explora in an extraview setup. I make use of a 60 cm dish and twin LNB with smart switch. The figures on the HD PVR are 98% strength and 100% quality for both Tuner 1 & 2. On the Explora I have the following:

Tuner 1 - 72% strength & 70% quality.
Tuner 2 - 88% strength & 100% quality.
Tuner 3 - 74% strength & 70% quality.

I believe the Explora quality values should at least be close to 100% on all three tuners. Any ideas where the problem could be? I have noticed a slight loss in picture quality when viewing (Tuner 1) on Explora.

Hi Morne,

Looks like at least a LNB skew angle alignment problem, the Explora is more sensitive than your 2P.

See my earlier post #36 onwards for a guide of what's needed.

Geoff has been out of the country, not sure when he'll be back. I don't think anyone else here currently has the info.

Question SIGNAL STRENGTH

Hi,

My signal strength is also between 74-76% on my Explora.

My problem is that since a month ago I have no Catch Up Plus titels.
My internet connection is perfect.

I had no problem before.
I took my Explora in and according the person who assisted me there was nothing wrong with the decoder. According to him the strength must be higher than 90% so he suggested I get a installer to make sure my installation is correct.
I called a service provider on the Dstv panel. He was not very helpfulHe said theres nothing wrong with the percentage of my strenghth!
I ph'd another installer. he did not even wanted to come out to my house. He just recommended I re-boot the decoder..which I obviously did numerous times already! If that does not work I must format and reset the decorder. If that did not work then only he will come have a look!
My problem with reset and formatting is then I loose all my recorded programs on the hard drive. (Is there any way to transfer the recordeings?)

What am I to do...because I am missing out on a lot without Catch Up Plus!!!

No the reformat story is an absolute last resort action!

There are a few other things to check though.

(1) What LNB do you have in place? is it a Twin LNB plus ES switch or do you have a Smart LNB installed.

(2) How old are the cables? Have you physically checked the cables outside for damage? The same goes for the LNB Is it showing signs of perishing or cracks or damage?

(3) What are the signal strength and quality values on all 3 tuners.

Start a recording before checking these values to ensure you get a true reading for tuner 2.

Do this when viewing ch 262 and ch 405 and post the results.

It could be a simple issue with the LNB skew angle but lets see the results first.

Thank you. I will do that to-nite.
It is a smart LNB. The installation was done 6 months ago. There should be no problems with the cabling..

I will post the results later.

And to answer your other question - no, transfers of recordings is not possible.

What you need is signal quality to be close to or preferably in the 90's. Signal strength could improve.

I'll leave my involvement there, planning to actively be off the forum for quite a while.

My results are as follows:
262
T1 72% & 100%
T2 76% & 100%
T3 74% & 82%

405
T1 74% & 85%
T2 74% & 100%
T3 74% & 82%

What is the verdict please...
