Default Box Office Issues: Desktop player

I have just tried to get my PC setup for the holidays to be able maybe make use of the BO service and found a few interesting anomalies.

Then today, Netflix made an announcement about being able to download and watch later. Just when MC removes this capability for online access to BO and showmax ....

Quote:
Netflix now allows video download and offline playback
Netflix said*members may want to watch “their Stranger Things binge while on airplanes and other places where Internet is expensive or limited”, and the download option caters to this.
“Just click the download button on the details page for a film or TV series and you can watch it later without an Internet connection,” said Netflix.
“Many of your favorite streaming series and movies are already available for download, with more on the way.”
The new feature is included in all plans and available for phones and tablets on Android and iOS.
Now back to BO. The BO desktop player is no longer available for download and no longer allows one to download a title for viewing as many times as you want to in the next 48 hours.

Instead, one is able to stream the content as many times as you want to in the next 48 hours! Multiple times over and over again at the expense of your own data bundle!

MC please explain how this makes any sense at all?? A BO movie now costs you a fortune to view via an Internet connection online! And I presume so does Showmax!

So, while MCs compliance with Browser trends is commendable and long overdue, did no one in MC think this process through before removing the download capability for Showmax and BO?

Effectively, this means that one is now given the opportunity to view BO (and Showmax) for a period of 48 hours once, or pay over and over again in terms of data usage for multiple streaming of the same content!

Please MC if my logic is wrong here, help clarify what the position is with BO and presumable Showmax as well.

Below are the relevant FAQs off the BO site.

Quote:
How long is my BoxOffice rental valid for?
Once you have successfully paid for a rental, the movie will be available to you immediately, for 48-hours. You can watch the movie as many times as you like within the 48-hour period.
Quote:
Can I download BoxOffice movies and watch them offline?
You can continue to enjoy BoxOffice movie rentals by streaming them online, or watch on your DStv Explora or PVR from the comfort of your couch.
The answer to these very misleading FAQs is no you cannot, BUT you can at your cost in terms of data, stream the content as many times as you like in a 48-hour window!

Downloads are possible via the DStv Now App, which now has over 1000 movies on Catch Up Plus (that is the same as the Catch Up available on DStv Now). So in a sense you can stream and download movies.

For BoxOffice, you can of course also use your PVR. If you want to use your PC, then you'll only be able to stream. Whether you stream or download, you will use the same amount of data.

I'm sorry that this does not seem to work for you.

MoM, I need to commend you on being an expert at delivering the MC double talk message!

BUT, the facts are:

(1) There is no DSTVNOW app available for Win10. There are 2 apps available, in the win 10 store, one for Supersport and one for the TV guide but nothing for DSTV now.

(2) The Android app available does NOT work on my tablet, even though your site says it should.

(3) as far as I can tell, there is NO download button available on BO anymore so, it is NOT possible to download for later viewing.

(4)On my PC, I can only stream any of the MC services (WIN 10) and tried ALL the browsers I am prepared to try. Chrome, IE 11 and MS Edge.

(5) BO and CU is only available to top end packages via a PVR decoder. So as in the past all I had available for BO, was online via a PC, which now does not work either.

Net result: MC have again shown that all they are good at is taking away functionality previously enjoyed by your subscribers .....

"Downloading in a sense" just not cut it.

A simple clear answer to my question which I nw repeat is what I am looking for. A yes/NO answer is what I am expecting.

Is it possible to download BO content via a PC for later viewing?

No double talk please.

No it is definitely available to all customers. Are you paying the access fee on your PVR?

I would NOT be querying any of this if I was not paying my access fee! I have been in the game for a long time .....

All DStv customers with an active HD PVR or DStv Explora get access to BoxOffice, regardless of your package. So I suppose the question is which decoder you're trying to access the service from? If it is from your SD PVR, then it won't be available but if from your 4-tuner or your spare Explora, then it will.

Yes the SD PVR gives the message, but so does the UEC 4 tuner -------
