Default Some BoxOffice news - Bollywood, BoxOffice for all and WeChat payment

Press release issued last night

The vibrant, colourful world of Bollywood comes to BoxOffice
BoxOffice also now available to all DStv customers in South Africa

DStv customers can look forward to the enchanting music, dazzling costumes and eye-catching dance sequences as Bollywood comes to MultiChoice’s video-on-demand movie rental service, BoxOffice on 12 October 2016.

The latest Bollywood movies will be available at the touch of the GREEN button as BoxOffice delivers this scintillating entertainment in the comfort of your home. Bollywood A-Listers such as Rajnikanth, Sharukh Khan, Priyanka Chopra (among others) will captivate the whole family with nail-biting drama, heart-wrenching romance, vicious betrayal and gut-busting comedy.

When Bollywood on BoxOffice launches on 12 October 2016, the catalogue will boast the latest films in Hindi and Tamil. In future, classic Bollywood movies will be added to the catalogue, and offered at a reduced price.

BoxOffice for all DStv customers
All DStv customers have further reason to celebrate, as all customers will now have access to BoxOffice. Previously this service was only available to DStv Premium, Extra and Compact customers. Now all DStv customers with an active HD PVR or DStv Explora will be able to rent the hottest movies – at just R35 each – whenever they want them.

‘BoxOffice is the most convenient way for our customers to access the latest blockbusters and we’re thrilled that all our customers can now experience this service. No doubt, the addition of Bollywood movies will bring extra excitement to our customers’ summer,’ said Mark Rayner, CEO of MultiChoice South Africa.

DStv customers with an Explora will now be able to choose from a selection of 30 BoxOffice movies.

And convenience is what it’s all about. In less time than it takes to make your popcorn, you’ll be ready to immerse yourself in a world of magic, no matter what you’re in the mood for.

Pay for BoxOffice with WeChat

Renting your movie on BoxOffice will be even easier in the next month or so as WeChat wallet becomes available on BoxOffice. This option will give customers more flexibility when it comes to choosing a payment method that suits them. WeChat will also give DStv customers R35 back into their WeChat wallets for up to 5 movies as part of our Crazy Deals campaign.

For more information on any of these exciting announcements, please go to the DStv website at DStv.com.

Great news, this was one of the last major concerns with the service

I presume this includes EasyView subscribers.
I see the SD PVR isn't included in the above statement, perhaps too old for the complexity of wider use?
And does it include the UEC 4 tuner HD PVR which is also at end of support status?
Lastly, presuming that this change is also only coming into effect on the 12th of October.

Thanks

Hi there - the change is effective immediately. So as of today, all customers with an active HDPVR or Explora can use BoxOffoce. Bollywood movies are available from 12 Oct.

And yes not on SD PVR, which is consistent with what is available to Compact and Extra customers. Essentially making BoxOffice available on the SD PVR requires further software development. It is available to Premium customers with an SDPVR as that development was done in 2011 when we launched the service.

BoxOffice is available to all online via DStv.com.

Makes sense.
(So then understood as also being on EasyView, and that one can use the UEC 4 tuner HD PVR for this.)

Thanks

Confirmed.

BO is now available of the UEC HD PVR 4T but not on the SD PVR for EasyView.

Checked last night.

Never could understand the logic which allowed non-MC customers access to BO via the Internet But prevented MC customers with any package access via their decoders ...

The change to get BO to work on the SD PVR for all customers must be very small ....

Forgot to say though, that a reboot was required to get it to work properly on the UEC HD PVR 4T.

So although I am not sure if a full sw update happened with a new version number, some changes to the sw did have to happen to activate BO.

Maybe they had the s/w changes quietly lurking in the background for the last few months

Recently upgraded my 2P to Explora. Noticed about 30 titles on the Explora whereas the 2P had only about half. More choice. Nice!
