Hi all, Here is an example of how NOT to install a "T" in a RF cable for HB distribution.

Why ?? Is it because the cable on the right isn't earthed ??

Hi Geoff,
horrendous!
I've seen mains wiring that is equally as bad!
[edit] Just done a frame grab of it from an old VHS video recording!
It's a stick of wood separating the 3-way join on the conductors of some out-doors mains lighting wiring
Yes and it's within touching distance!
Cheers, K.

My woes at my daughter's new place just do not stop!.

This home belonged to an "IT person". He was supposed to have sent >R 12 000 on getting his home CoC compliant. Says something for the state of the wiring.

BUT the work done was pathetic. I am "undoing" bad workmanship as I go along and find things.

Yesterday I was sorting out an issues with the Telephone drop wires touching the neighbours electric fence.

Last week it was sorting out the cabling for an XV decoder in a second lounge. Still have to move some cables but have removed all the lousy RF distribution and run 2 cables from the antenna to both decoder points. Awaiting a decision about what RF they want where.
Removed the TV feed to the LAPA. Imagine, an HDMI cable and a RCA cable just going through a hole in the wall and concreted into the paving! No duct.

This weekend it will be to sort out the UPS power feed to the garage door opener!

Have had to tidy up the CCTV DVR wall mounted rack and that cabling! Coax cable BNC connectors crimped on with pliers!

Now run into an issue with a poorly implemented UPS power system. The system is fancy! BUT because of the light load found in a normal home installing a typical UPS setup suitable for a small business is just crazy!

To continue with this saga. Over the weekend, I was again at it at my daughter's new place, where the second lounge now played a role in how TV was to be distributed. The Previous owner claimed ( as part of his sales pitch), that complete home was "wired for TV distribution, with HDMI available on both lounges, and a compliant HB distribution system in place, plus an extension of TV from the one lounge into the LAPA.

The reality was completely different! Basically, there was:

NO HDMI distribution: What was there is that the two lounges allowed for a decoder to be placed in each, with local HDMI possible direct to the decoder.

HB distribution was to a 1 x 2 SLX splitter, which meant that first the RFs had to be combined from the two decoders with presumably a T piece and the distribution to the other rooms were via the first post, a "central bus RF cable" with the joints as shown last week. The location of the SLX splitter was incredibly difficult to find in the ceiling. Each Lounge has 4 RF cables going into the roof ( non marked) The LNB feeds were made up of cables with barrel joints in them. The one from the SLNB had 5 barrel joints in it!
(Looks like he went to a scrap yard a picked up bits of RG 6 and joined them up to make a length).
The LAPA was fed with an indoor RCA cable buried in the paving.

I recovered so much RF cable from previous installs, (about 100m) that I was able to replace the LNB feeds with solid lengths. I have a supply of barrels for another 5 installations at least.

There are now 2 RF cable from the LNB point into each Lounge. There is now a proper RF distribution place, properly terminated on a wall socket in each room.

BUT it took a total of 6 hours to get it right.
