You could keep that HD PVR on a separate EasyView subscription with PVR access, until your kids have watched everything on it (you would still have access to previously recorded Premium content). Not a huge amount extra then.

Or transfer the HD PVR content to an external recording device (only possible in SD) if you can find one.

Or some of those movies may repeat again on live TV.

Or, find another SD PVR on the second-hand market, but then it will be more difficult to move forward towards the modern and all-offering-HD options.

Hi there and welcome to the Forum, as per our announcement at the start of the thread and subsequent posts in this thread - for 3 decoders connected in XtraView, you can only connect a primary Explora to a combination of Explora and DStv HD Decoders. So unfortunately you cannot link your other 2 4UHD decoders to create 3 viewing environments - you can link one of them to your Explora through XtraView 2 create 2 viewing environments.

Hi Marietjie,

He may be talking about the new 4136 (non-PVR) HD decoders which are also called the "4U", in which case, as you detail, he can do it.

@Romeo11 - if you mean the old 4 tuner HD PVRs (also called the "4U") then not possible.
It's recommended that you use a MC accredited installer for the setup, but if you want to try DIY then here's what we've learnt so far (please post any queries regarding DIY in that thread) : 3 Exploras on XtraView

Hi,

With the new Explora now coming (see here and here), can a Mod please explain what changes there will be regarding the choice of primary decoder, if any?

Thanx

No changes to choice of primary decoder - always has to be an Explora, either first one or the new one launched today.

Hi Zodiac - the following two trade-in options are available for your SD PVR :
  • R999 for the DStv Explora (if you took this option, you'd still need to buy the third decoder - either another Explora or the single view DStv HD Decoder. You'd also need to get an installer out to connect the new decoders to the satellite dish and link them together in XtraView)
  • R1999 for a DStv Explora PLUS DStv HD Decoder PLUS installation with an 80cm dish and DStv Smart LNB

Any queries, I'm happy to help.

Nope, but sure you knew that
The best of what you do get is additional HD access at the same time.
