Taking away the trick mode toggle button is the best thing to happen to the remote.

The new remote looks beautiful but it also looks like it might be quite expensive.
Is this the model that will be included with the decoders or is this a seperate purchase remote?

The mode can now be changed via macro/ programming, so in that way at least, it is far superior to the ring mechanism. The single trick button requires gentle handling and unfortunately too many cases of brakeages occurred, so we have split out the instant rewind function and put the other functions on separate buttons on a high-quality long-life mechanism.

The aim is to package this remote with the PVR models. A slightly simpler remote (Basically just without the display) will be shipped with other decoders.

I am going send my original SD remotes to MC one day, for their "Hall of Fame" for remotes that have NEVER broken ("trick mode toggles" are still in perfect working order)

I have used many remotes and have only had one multi-switch break - other people complain that the switches on both (SD) remotes broke within a week.

I think it's all a matter of how you treat them.

I also enjoyed the multi-switch (It was done to my original requirement) but I think the new system will work just fine - and we'll hopefully cut returns on remotes by 80% (Not that there was a landslide of remote returns but still...)

The new A3 remote was released earlier this year and will be the default remote until the next generator decoder/software which is some time away, could be years if not many months. See C4 from MC post #47.

There is a big difference there! Which was why I was asking C4.

I love the A3 but it does not have enough memory to programme all the devices that I use - seven incl 2 decoders.

The next universal PVR remote will only roll out with the next generation software. The next generation entry level remote will be introduced with the digital terrestrial decoder. DTT will be here well before the next PVR software - and DTT in SA is not due till about mid 2011.
