No the secondary decoder stops working because it cannot receive the HB signal from the associated Primary decoder.

Of course. But if it was their own apartment they'd have to bring both? .

And that starts making things complicated for you and them
The issue is how much risk do you want to expose yourself to when guests start connecting and disconnecting decoders to the cabling and TV?

I presume the TV is a fixture and that there is only one in the lounge close to the decoders?

Forgot to switch on rich text.
There is a bedroom TV but that's irrelevant. It connects from the lounge TV using an old blaster.

Slightly off topic but talking about fiddling, there's a DStv history to this apartment, for your amusement. I used to connect to a complex shared dish using an old 9xx then later my current PVR 2P. For the latter I found some advice online that enabled me to get almost full PVR functionality from the single cable by configuring a dozen extra networks. Ditto at home with a single LNB. Only problem was couldn't record with one polarity while connected to the other.

Upgraded to the SLNB at home, then a year ago also at the apartment with my own dish. On a later visit I couldn't understand why I couldn't connect and had to call an installer. Even he was puzzled, until he found a signal from the Universal using his meter. A tenant had switched the cable at the dish. Almost certainly done by a different (and ill-informed?) installer, it needed a big ladder.

Then this time again a problem. Aha! I know what to look at now. Yes, again the cable switched. And the blue cover off and dangling on the cable. But after a night watching using Universal the complex staff found me a long enough ladder and I switched cables again. But still not working and had to call installer again. They detected that there was an LNB Unicable fault and replaced the LNB. They also said that the unprotected and exposed LNB contacts could have caused the problem.
