We've had some feedback from the teams who are responsible for doing the Hearing Impaired subtitles for Catch Up and BoxOffice.

The principle is that if they receive the show as Express from the US or within 5 days of the broadcast, they won't be able to do subtitles for Catch Up in time for when the episode first plays out and goes on to Catch Up. However, they aim to replace the Catch Up version with one with HI subtitles when it is completed.

Important to note that we do not receive the shows with HI subtitles that we can use on our systems, so they need to be manually created by a team for the various platforms the show is available on eg live TV, Catch Up on your decoder - different for different decoders, Catch Up on DStv Now online and on smartphones.

For the specific shows you queried, we have feedback as follows:
Elementary (MCity) - the HI version is available and is being processed
Shameless (M-Net) - the show arrives very close to the airing, so won't have HI available
Superstore (VUZU Amp) - HI in progress
Bull (M-Net) - the show arrives very close to airing, so won't have HI available

So even though Bull and Superstore's current seasons started on the same week in the US, you guys are getting the Superstore episodes much earlier?

Different shows get delivered at different times as they come from different studios, and have different rights clearances. For some shows, they only start sending out episodes once they've aired in the US, for other they send it before.

@FIFO, Valor is only received about 3 days before broadcast, which means HI subtitles will not be ready in time for Catch Up.

M-Net's approach is that if the HI subtitles is not available for the first airing of a show, that it is available for repeat screenings.

For Valor, this means you can record the Monday morning 1:20 on 101 or 220 on 901 to get a version of the show with HI subtitles.

The HI being available means subtitles are now available on each title on catchUp right? But there's still none on Elementary? Unless I'm reading this incorrectly. Please advise
