I took it in and the unit was replaced, got it home and it makes the same noise. That was after having to drive 50Km. having to wait for an hour for the decoder software to be updated

Sometimes a vibration on a surface will cause a "harmonic" noise, just at that frequency - maybe that?
Try putting something under it, but without blocking any air vents of course.

Otherwise... you know what, *sigh*
