The promised "new" season 5 (2011/2012) of Pointless is finally starting next Wednesday (28 June)... only 2 months after season SEVENTEEN started in the UK.

I can just imagine how many cycles of season 1 to 5 we will now be getting before we one day MAYBE get season 6.

I'd call it about 3 years worth

Well the new (yet very old) season finally started last night but I have to say, the channel has shot itself in the foot by the number of repeats and us being so far behind the UK.

While I will (probably) still watch - at least for a while - I have become a much bigger fan of The Chase on ITV in the absence of no new Pointless episodes.

It is near impossible to compete for a trivia/quiz show with questions that are 12 season behind the UK if your biggest competition is only ONE season behind the UK. Questions on The Chase just feel fresh and current which makes it much more enjoyable.

My recommendation to BBC Brit (and for which there is zero expectations or chances of it happening) it so delve a bit deeper into those (basically untouched) pockets and just skip 10 seasons. Bring the series to us fresh and close to the UK - especially since they are hoping people will watch what is actually a daytime program in the UK every single night of the week during prime time.

Although I only watch either occasionally I find The Chase far more interesting re facts and in entertainment value than Pointless.

Don't think BBC Brit is aimed much at Premium anymore, that's maybe one of the reasons we got BBC First and I think one of the reasons for ITV Choice having been added by MC.
I suspect Brit's target audience leads to the budget not being capable enough.

I fully agree. This is why I recommended some time ago that BBC First should maybe become a 24-hour channel offering not only drama but also general entertainment shows (comedies, chat shows, game shows, non- nature documentaries etc) of the same quality (and age) as what they are giving us in the drama department. ITV does offer that but we are missing out on a lot of great BBC content which I would love to see in my lifetime.

Yesbut... that would be e-x-p-e-n-s-i-v-e :-/
I would push for it as well if I didn't surely believe that the sub-continent's content doesn't have the percentage of viewers' interest needed in this country, was most surprised we got 119 & 123.

Would be nice if I was wrong here but really doubt it.

You are (unfortunately) probably correct. BUT...why then not keep the BBC First hours (and budget) the same but offer a bigger variety as opposed to just drama?
