Default FIFA World Cup 2018 in 4K HDR?

Hi,

FIFA recently announced that it has plans to supply its Media Rights Licensees for next year's World Cup in Russia with 4K UHD productions of each of the tournament's 64 games:

https://www.whathifi.com/news/fifa-c...able-in-4k-uhd

Can Multichoice confirm whether it has any intentions to broadcast the FIFA World Cup in 4K HDR?

At least - making a 4K live stream available via DSTV Now Chromecast over fibre?

Regards,
Greg

Unlikely you'll get an answer from them here so I'll help with what's understood by regulars.

For satellite reception you would have needed to ask in the PVR Decoders section, but the answer would be no as there's no MC decoder in the market that can handle 4K.
And from what MC have said before, very unlikely to see any such development soon, if at all.

That would need to be asked in the DStv Now section, but if possible they'll just tell you that they can't make any announcements until they're ready to...

That's all from me.

At the moment Greg we have no intention to do so - customers would need special equipment to receive a 4K broadcast, so might not be feasible. However, we never say never.

Happy to hear this is at least in discussions, thank you.

Assuming the rights/licences are in place, 6 months is enough time to make a 4K-ready DSTV Now App available for the Apple TV 4K platform (or indeed any Android/Tizen Smart Hub TV platform) to deliver the FIFA World Cup in 4K over fibre.

MC did this in 2008 by getting HD ready just in time for the Olympic Games. Let's do it again for 4K!

The Video Entertainment group met today and are investigating the feasibility of offering the World Cup in 4K.
I'll feedback once a decision has been made.
